Replit makes OpenAI its default model over Anthropic, CEO Amjad Masad says
The Foster City coding platform cites cost, partnership and performance, though customers can still choose Claude models.

Replit, the Foster City, Calif., AI coding platform popular with founders and developers, has made OpenAI its default model provider, CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt. He said the decision was based on cost, partnership and performance, and that Replit had until recently been one of Anthropic’s five largest customers.
Masad later clarified that customers can still pick Anthropic’s Claude models on the platform. “Replit remains model agnostic,” he said, adding that OpenAI is now the preferred partner for powering Replit Agent. Because most users stay with the default, the change could significantly reduce Replit’s spending with Anthropic. People familiar with the Anthropic relationship said the partnership remains in place.
Masad also said enterprise contracts have grown from about 2% of revenue last year to about 15% this year, with more than half of revenue now coming from business customers. He expects enterprise and government customers to account for more than half of revenue in 2027.
