Thousands of opposition supporters marched through Delhi on Monday to the Supreme Court to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the BBC reports. Thousands of protesters had been detained over the weekend.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed a petition challenging the revision of voter lists. The Election Commission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP reject the opposition's allegations.

Chief Justice Surya Kant said the matter was already before the court but promised any petition would be heard at the earliest opportunity. Reporters Without Borders condemned the detention of at least 16 journalists.
