AI Minister Evan Solomon announced an additional $500 million over five years for the Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative, bringing total federal funding to $700 million, according to a federal news release.

Delivered through regional development agencies, the program helps businesses adopt AI and helps Canadian AI firms commercialise and scale, with a focus on health, energy, transportation, agriculture and manufacturing.

Ottawa says 218 projects have been funded since 2024, creating or maintaining more than 1,100 jobs. Applications in southern Ontario are open until Jan. 19, 2027.
