Microsoft committed US$10 million to President Donald Trump's White House ballroom project, and Amazon and T-Mobile committed US$5 million each, according to an internal donor list obtained by the Washington Post and reported on Thursday.

The money flows through a nonprofit, the Trust for the National Mall, into a White House account the president controls, and is not subject to campaign finance limits or disclosure rules. Of the US$333 million raised so far, most came from companies and wealthy individuals with interests before the federal government, the Post found.

Apple and Nvidia were among the top contributors at US$25 million each on the list of 67 donations above US$10,000. Microsoft's commitment placed it alongside Palantir and Lockheed Martin, while Amazon and T-Mobile joined Meta, Cisco and ServiceNow at US$5 million.

The three Seattle-area companies all deal with Washington as suppliers or regulated businesses. Amazon faces an FTC antitrust trial next year, Microsoft is in a dispute with the Labor Department over its suspension from sponsoring foreign workers for permanent residency, and T-Mobile needs federal approval for spectrum and acquisitions. A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment beyond what had been reported.
