B.C. colleges and universities in limbo as they await independent funding review
Institutions have cut programs, including trades, after losing international student revenue.

B.C. colleges and universities remain in limbo as they wait for the government to release an independent review of the sector, The Globe and Mail reported on Saturday.
North Island College's board voted last February to pause 15 programs, including a cabinetmaking certificate in Port Alberni, as it worked to balance its books without millions in international student revenue, the newspaper reported.
Institutions across B.C., which relied more on foreign student fees than any province except Ontario, have made tough budget choices since Ottawa began curtailing the international student program in early 2024.
Reviewer Don Avison submitted his findings to the NDP government last spring, but the report has not been released, according to the Globe.
