Vancouver's Alebex AI ranks eighth in the world for live speech-to-text
The startup's streaming model placed ahead of systems from Google, Microsoft, Nvidia and Amazon on a new independent benchmark.

Vancouver-based Alebex AI has ranked eighth in the world on Artificial Analysis' new AA-WER Streaming Index, an independent international benchmark of how accurately streaming speech systems transcribe spoken language, Techcouver reported on Monday.
Streaming speech-to-text converts live speech into information that AI systems can understand and act on, letting people interact with software in real time. Competing against hundreds of models, Alebex placed ahead of models from Google, Microsoft, Nvidia and Amazon. The index was unveiled this month.
The company's chief executive said the significance of the result goes beyond the ranking itself.
Accurate live transcription underpins voice assistants, phone reception systems, captioning and call analytics, so a strong local player in the category matters for Vancouver companies building customer-facing AI.
