B.C. Conservatives pledge no new taxes as campaign turns to affordability
Lorne Doerkson made the promise in Surrey, two days after David Eby proposed a tax on unsold condominiums.

B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson promised on Sunday that a Conservative government would introduce no new taxes, making the pledge at a campaign stop at Bridgeview Park in Surrey, Peace Arch News and Global News reported.
Doerkson said affordability would be a top priority if he becomes premier. In a party statement, he said Conservatives would end what he called the NDP's endless tax grabs on working families. He was joined by Surrey candidates Trevor Halford, Mandeep Dhaliwal, Zeeshan Wahla and Megan Knight.
The pledge came after NDP Leader David Eby promised on Friday to impose a new tax on unsold condominiums and raise the existing speculation and vacancy tax. British Columbians vote on Oct. 24 in a snap election.
Tax policy is one of the clearest dividing lines in the campaign for business owners, who told the Canadian Federation of Independent Business this week that taxes and red tape are among their biggest concerns.
