Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a National Heat Pump Rebate on Oct. 8 in Sherbrooke, Que., aimed at helping up to 820,000 households switch to electric heat pumps, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

Eligible households below the median income would receive up to $10,000, and other eligible households $2,000. Both can be combined with provincial programs. The government says there will be no energy audits and approvals within 24 hours through an online portal.

The Canadian Press reported the program is expected to launch early next year. The government's program page says dates, eligibility details and how to apply are still to come.
