“The biggest planet has the shortest day.”
Jupiter swells across the forward window until the ship seems no larger than a grain of dust. ARQSA grips the console. “Mars was a planet. This feels like a whole system.”
ARQSI checks the clock. “And it spins once in about ten hours.” ARQSA: “A world this huge turns that fast?”

Eleven Earths wide
ARQSI drops an Earth-sized circle over Jupiter’s diameter. Eleven blue circles fit across the giant. “Jupiter is about eleven times wider than Earth.”
ARQSA: “So if Earth were a grape…” ARQSI rolls a blue grape icon beside a basketball-sized Jupiter icon. “That comparison is surprisingly useful.”
SCIENCE CARD: Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System. Its radius is about 69,911 km.

ARQSA marks a landing point. The computer flashes: NO SOLID SURFACE. “That is rude.”
ARQSI zooms through the cloud layers. “Jupiter is mostly hydrogen and helium. Deeper down, pressure squeezes the gases into denser forms. There is no ordinary rocky ground waiting under the clouds.”

Dark belts and bright zones stream around the planet. ARQSI: “These bands are not painted stripes. They are cloud regions shaped by powerful winds moving in different directions.”

SCIENCE CARD: The Great Red Spot is an immense long-lived storm. Its measured size changes over time.

The stars sweep past in a time-lapse. ARQSI: “One rotation takes about 9.9 hours—the shortest day of any planet.”
